PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL
FOR PAPERS - CSNSS'01
INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP on
COMPLEX SYSTEMS in NATURAL and SOCIAL SCIENCES (CSNSS'01)
October 18 - October 21, 2001, Toruń ( Torun ) ,
Poland

PURPOSE OF CSNSS'01 WORKSHOP
The purpose of the CSNSS'01 workshop is to bring
together multidisciplinary groups of scientists working
on applications of complex systems and nonlinear dynamics
in physics, chemistry, mathematics, statistics,
sociology, economy and finance. The workshop will be a
continuation of the series of similar meetings that took
place in Hungary (Matrafured 1995, Tata 1996, Budapest
1997) and in Poland(Kazimierz
Dolny 1999, Zakopane 2000)
and it is intended to provide a forum to report research,
discuss emerging topics and gain new insights into:
- nonlinear models in physics and chemistry
- stochastic models of financial markets and option
pricing
- collective character of opinion formation
processes
- tests for determinism and nonlinear models of
economical phenomena
- nonlinear econometrics
- synergetic and thermodynamical studies of
socio-economical systems
- models of bank bankrupties
- time series analysis.
A key motivation is to provide a common ground for an
open dialogue as well as for reporting research without
favouring any particular research constituency nor any
specific way of modelling or issue in this area. CSNSS'01
will seek to further the meaningful dialogue and exchange
of ideas between physicists, chemists, mathematicians,
finance experts, economists and sociologists.
The total number of participants will be limited to
about 30-35 persons.

REGISTRATION and ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
You can register and submit an abstract:
- either by filling the Registration
and Abstract Form directly on the Conference
WWW-Site (the preferable way): http://www.if.pw.edu.pl/~complex
- or by sending your registration and abstract as
an e-mail/regular letter to the address given
below. In such a case please include your full
affiliation, address, e-mail and fax.
The abstract should be contained in one page A4 format
with 3cm margins and it should include names and
addresses of all authors (presenting author should be
written in the first place or underlined). We accept
Microsoft Word, Postscript files and plain ASCII - file.
Please indicate in the covering letter whether you prefer
to present your contribution as a talk or as a poster.
Registration
and abstract submission DEADLINE is 30. June 2001.
The scientific committee will select contributed
papers and manner of their presentation.
Accepted abstracts will be presented at the Workshop
WWW-Site. The final program of the workshop will be
available at WWW-site by the 1. October 2001.

THE VENUE
The workshop will be held at Zajazd Staropolski in Torun (Poland). Torun is located in

Torun is well known as the home city of the great
astronomer Nicholas Copernicusits. Fortunately, Torun,
unlike many towns in Poland, has retained its former
buildings, city walls, Gothic churches, Teutonic castle
ruins, numerous townhouses etc. A special bus will
transfer participants from Warsaw to Torun on October 18.
and from Torun to Warsaw on October 21. Participants who
will not able to arrive to Warsaw in time will need to
take a train or bus to the Torun on their own to come to
the Workshop.
